Highlands Womens Fellowship

In Mendi and Tari, some of the first people to become Christians were women. Very few of them had opportunity to attend school and most of them were hardworking wives and mothers. Christian women began to learn practical skills like sewing and childcare. Many of them joined local and combined groups for Bible study, to learn more about the Christian message and to share it with others. In time, strong Women’s Fellowship groups started in many places. They were led by women. In a church were most leadership is in the hands of men, women have take responsibility for their own leadership.

This photo collection, starting in the 1960s, shows some of the activities that women were part of and also some of the women in leadership. Click on the arrows to move forward or back to see the slides.
